A Simplified Version of the
Story of Arachne, The Weaver

A mortal Lydian woman named Arachne, which means spider in Greek, was a very talented weaver. She bragged that she was a more skillful weaver than the Greek Goddess, Athena. This made Athena very mad so she challenged Arachne to a weaving duel. Arachne’s weaving was clearly better and Athena became even angrier. To punish Arachne, Athena turned her into a spider.
